Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, expressed strong support for the current Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, regarding his decision to bring parliamentary issues before the Supreme Court.
This move has sparked debate within political circles, but Bonsu believes it was a necessary step in clarifying legal interpretations. "The Supreme Court is the ultimate authority when it comes to interpreting the law," Bonsu asserted in an interview on Sompa FM monitored by MyNewsGH.com, underscoring the importance of seeking judicial guidance in complex legislative matters.
He commended Afenyo-Markin for taking this bold step, particularly in light of the challenges posed by recent decisions made by the Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Kingsford Alban Bagbin.
The veteran lawmaker pointed out that the Speaker's actions have, at times, complicated parliamentary proceedings, which warranted a legal examination. "The decisions made by the Speaker have adversely affected our work, and it is crucial that we seek clarification from the Supreme Court," he noted.
