The Ministry of Health has launched the Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Plan and Services Framework for 2024-2028. The document has the theme: "Sustaining the gains to accelerate the achievement of Universal Health Coverage. According to the Deputy Minister of Health, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, "launching the Strategic Plan for Nursing and Midwifery professions will further empower them by curbing the brain drain situation in the country, as the initiative will be setting ambitious goals for the advancement of their professional work." He further stated, "Government has significantly improved health outcomes over the past few years by expanding access to healthcare services, reduced maternal and child mortality rates and strengthened the health systems with a substantial contribution by gallant nurses and midwives in the country". "This could not be achieved without the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for providing technical and financial support, WHO and World Vision for supporting the launch of the document," he added during the launch on August 8. UNFPA Deputy Representative, Dr. Emmily Kamwendo- Naphambo said continuous technical and financial support in strengthening Ghana's health system will always be prioritized to make a difference in the reduction of child and mortality rate in the country.
