Samuel Atta Akyea, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, has sharply criticized recent developments in Parliament, labeling them as "constitutional lawlessness" that threatens to disrupt the delicate balance of power in Ghana's legislative body.

Atta Akyea's comments come in the wake of a contentious ruling by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin on October 17, 2024, declaring four parliamentary seats vacant.

This decision followed announcements by three sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) who revealed their intention to contest the 2024 general elections as independent candidates.

Additionally, the MP for Fomena, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, who initially entered Parliament as an independent in 2020, stated his intent to run in the next election under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) banner.
