Renowned highlife artiste, Ofori Amponsah has shared his journey to becoming a star in Ghana's music scene. In an interview on the Day Show with Berla Mundi, Ofori Amponsah said he used to roam in town looking for a producer to sell his songs to.He recounted that one time in Lapaz when he had just closed from school, he decided to go on his usual search for a producer and met a Compact Disc (CD) seller. The CD seller told him about an opportunity; the legendary Daddy Lumba was looking for talents to groom."I was in school and after school I would just pick my CDs and go around and I went to a CD shop around Lapaz."That was the last day, I just wanted to give up because I was looking for about 4 years trying to get somebody to listen to my songs."When I got to that place and I asked the guy do you produce, he said no and asked if I have a song and I said yes."So, he listened to the songs and started nodding his head and said these songs are great.

I think Daddy Lumba is searching for young guys to groom.

So that guy was my breakthrough," he narrated on Sunday, October 20.He subsequently met Daddy Lumba two days after he had been told of the opportunity.

The legendary highlife listened to his songs and applauded him with a GHC5000 cash in a brown envelope back in 1993.He recalled Daddy Lumba telling him "you are a star" after listening to his songs."The first day I couldn't meet him so, I went the next day and met him and he said are you Ofori Amponsah and I said yes.
