Private legal practitioner, Justice Abdulai, has expressed doubt over the possibility of Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin delaying his decision due to a case filed at the Supreme Court.According to Abdulai, the judiciary has no role in parliamentary activities.Speaking on Ghana Tonight with Alfred Ocansey on October 15, Abdulai noted that while it is difficult to predict the outcome of such cases, he remains confident that based on well-established constitutional principles, the court's involvement will not go far."Without a shred of imagination or doubt, I don't think this case will progress much," he stated. He also emphasized that he does not expect Speaker Bagbin to wait for a court ruling before making his decision on the matter. It would be recalled that Majority Leader of Parliament Alexander Afenyo-Markin filed an application for an injunction in the Supreme Court to contest a petition by Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu regarding the status of four Members of Parliament (MPs).Iddrisu's petition, submitted to the  Speaker of Parliament, requests that the seats of MPs from Suhum, Amenfi Central, and Agona West be declared vacant, following their decision to run as independent candidates in the 2024 elections.Related Article:Breach of Article 97: Afenyo-Markin petitions Supreme Court to prevent Speaker from declaring seats vacantAbdulai argued that the petition in Parliament should proceed without interruption from the Supreme Court, as parliamentary processes are distinct from judicial oversight."I see the Speaker simply ignoring or throwing away the intervention of the Majority and proceed into hearing the motion and as to whether the motion itself will be decided in favour of the Majority or the Minority is a different issue that completely cannot be influenced by this intervention that has been made by the Majority Leader," he noted. Read also:'Haruna Iddrisu has no locus to demand removal of NPP MPs, only NPP can' - Prof.
