A group calling itself Silent Majority of UTAG has issued a petition against the indefinite strike action by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) calling for a reconsideration of their recent strike decision.
The group criticizes the National Executive Committee (NEC) of UTAG for declaring an indefinite strike, a move they believe went beyond the mandate initially granted to the leadership.
The petition outlines how UTAG members were asked to vote on whether to support a nationwide strike related to illegal mining (galamsey), which was part of a broader effort by Organised Labour.
While UTAG supported this motion, the intended nationwide strike was called off after negotiations between Organised Labour and the government.
