The Ghana Police Service says it has commenced an investigation into the fatal car crash that occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at East Legon in Accra.

The police statement issued on Monday, October 14, 2024, confirmed several earlier reports related to the accident, including the identity of the driver of one of the vehicles involved. "The Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into an accident that occurred on Saturday, 12th October 2024, at East Legon in Accra, leading to the death of two persons. "Preliminary police investigation indicates that the suspect driver, identified as Salifu Amoako, rammed his vehicle into another vehicle on Dzanie Ashie Street at East Legon.

Both vehicles caught fire and burnt beyond recognition," the statement said.

According to the police, while the suspect driver and other surviving victims remain under medical treatment, one of the surviving victims has been discharged, "while the bodies of the deceased victims have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy." CCTV footage from the crash on Saturday, October 12, 2024, showed how the accident led to the deaths of two women.
