The Sofoase Yefere Royal Family of Wenchi, to which the Busia family belongs, has filed a judicial review application at the High Court in Sunyani. The application, dated July 25, 2024, seeks a Mandamus order to compel the Judicial Committee of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs to constitute a panel to hear a long-standing chieftaincy petition. The petition, filed on July 24, 2019, challenges the nomination of Mr. Abrefa Damoah as Wenchihene, citing unconstitutionality and contravention of the Chieftaincy Act, 2009 (Act 759). Initially, the Bono Regional House of Chiefs granted an injunction, restraining Damoah from acting as Wenchihene.
