The (EC) in the Akuapim South and New Juaben South Municipalities registered 877 citizens during the three-day mop-up voter registration exercise, which started on Thursday, August 1, 2024. The EC initiated the mop-up voter registration exercise to allow citizens who failed to register during previous voter registration exercises to be captured in the system as eligible voters and be presented with voter identification cards. The exercise gave inmates the opportunity to register, as they have the right to exercise their franchise according to the 1992 constitution, despite being convicted of crimes. Among the registrants were 456 females and 421 males, with the majority being citizens under 21 years old, totaling 845. Information from the EC office to the Ghana News Agency during a visit to the voting center indicated that 333 of the 524 citizens registered in the municipality presented their Ghana Cards as proof of their nationality and age.
"Three hundred and thirty-three people came with their Ghana Cards, 189 came with guarantors, and two with their passport booklets to serve as evidence of their nationality and age," he said.
