South Dayi Member of Parliament(MP), Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has called on the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to take decisive action in the fight against illegal mining, known as galamsey, which continues to degrade Ghana's environment.

Speaking on TV3's The Key Points on Saturday, October 12 monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Dafeamekpor emphasized the responsibility of these institutions to enforce the law and halt unlicensed mining operations. "It is your duty to ensure that operations of the people you haven't licensed are stopped," Dafeamekpor said, addressing both the Minerals Commission and the EPA.

He further stressed, "It is your duty as mandated by the law to ensure the environment is not degraded." According to the MP, the failure to act on their legal mandates is contributing to the ongoing environmental damage caused by illegal mining activities.

Dafeamekpor also suggested that the agencies should be better equipped to monitor and prevent environmental degradation more effectively.
