Social justice advocate Felicity Nelson has given a detailed account of the circumstances surrounding the arrest of #FixTheCountry convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
Speaking during an appearance on Newsfile monitored by MyNewsGH.com, a popular current affairs program on JoyNews, Felicity detailed what transpired during the protest that culminated in Oliver's detention. "I wasn't there when everything went down," she began, clarifying her absence from the scene when the controversial incident occurred. "But when I got to the protest, I was filled in by the people there, and I gathered as much information as I could afterwards." According to Felicity, the situation escalated when the police attempted to tow away a van that was carrying essential supplies for the demonstrators.
The van, which housed items like water, placards, and other protest materials, was critical for the ongoing demonstration. "Oliver took the key from the police van," she explained, "because they were trying to take away the very van that had our supplies.
Without it, the protest would have been cut short." She added that it wasn't simply about preventing the van from being towed but about a larger safety concern that developed at that moment.
