Ms Felicity Nelson, one of the protesters who took President Nana Akufo-Addo to task for his perceived inconsistencies regarding the galamsey menace, has justified their decision to stage the protest that led to her arrest. "He speaks very well, but his actions are not consistent with the things that he does," Felicity remarked, highlighting a growing frustration among Ghanaians regarding the government's handling of illegal mining activities that have ravaged the country's natural resources.

Felicity's comments during a discussion on Joy News' Newsfile monitored by MyNewsGh.com come in the wake of ongoing discussions surrounding the devastating impact of illegal mining, or galamsey, on Ghana's environment and communities.

The practice has been linked to deforestation, pollution of water bodies, and significant health risks for residents living near mining sites.

Despite repeated promises from the Akufo-Addo administration to combat illegal mining, critics argue that little has changed on the ground. "If he really did care about this issue, he would not be contesting this election," Felicity continued, expressing her belief that the President's priorities are misaligned with the urgent need to address the galamsey crisis. "Instead of focusing on the well-being of our environment and the health of our communities, it seems he is more concerned about maintaining his political position." She lashed out Felicity's critique resonates with many who believe that the government must prioritize environmental protection over political gains. "This is not just about political survival; this is about the future of our country and our children," she urged. "We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to the devastation caused by galamsey."
