The High Court in Cape Coast has restrained the Council of the University of Cape Coast from varying the renewal appointment of the University's Vice Chancellor, Prof.Johnson Nyarko Boampong. This comes after the High Court granted an injunction filed by John Memeveo, a resident of Millenium City at Kasoa in the Central Region.Memeveo is contesting the University's decision to extend Prof.

Nyarko-Boampong's tenure, arguing that the extension contradicts the 1992 Constitution.

However, lawyers for the Vice Chancellor challenged this in court per their motion. Therefore in its ruling on the motion for the Stay of Execution and Interlocutory injunction, the court restrained the University, its governing council, Chairman, and all its appointers from discussing or deliberating on any matter relating to the removal of the Vice Chancellor. Also, the court prohibited them from taking any decision that would suspend, reverse, or set aside the appointment of Prof Boampong. The court thus ordered that Professor Nyarko Boampong continue to perform his functions and duties as Vice Chancellor per his renewed appointment commencing from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2026, until otherwise determined in the pending suit.
