Fifty-two Democracy Hub protesters have finally been granted bail by the Accra High Court and Circuit Court after relentless requests by their lawyers.
The protesters who were arrested for various roles during a 3-day demonstration against Galamsey have subsequently been charged with multiple offences including unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, assault of a public officer and defacement of public notice.
At their first hearing at the Circuit Courts, they were denied bail and remanded into Police custody while some were sent to prison after pleading not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
This development created a public uproar and birthed another 3-day protest resulting in hundreds of netizens pouring out in the streets with placards bearing a wide array of messages President Akufo-Addo and other government officials.
