Organsied Labour, has decided to suspend its intended strike action against the devastating effects of illegal mining by some Ghanaians.Their decision follows a communiqué from the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, reaffirming stringent measures taken to mitigate the menace of galamsey. They have therefore called on all its member organisations not to go ahead with the strike action, and to rally behind the directives outlined by the President in combating the illegal mining activities.Expectations Not Met Organised Labour explained that, they reaffirmed their intended strike because the outcome of an earlier meeting with the President and government officials on October 7, 2024, did not meet the expectations of organised labour. "At a meeting of Organised labour on October 7, the meeting resolved that the measures announced by government were not adequate in addressing our demands and stopping the dangers posed by illegal mining.
We, therefore, affirmed the strike notice and informed the Government accordingly." However, Organsied labour announced that, there have been further discussions and lengthy deliberations on measures the government has to take to end the menace of illegal mining.
In view of the convincing measures outlined by the President, it is therefore prudent that Organised labour calls of the strike immediately. More soon.....
