The Board Chair of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMeT), Isaac Amoo, has made it clear that staff members are not authorized to participate in the upcoming nationwide strike against illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.

In a statement that resonated with authority and urgency, Amoo expressed, "On behalf of the Board and the leadership of this agency, I want to announce to you that GMeT does not approve any of its workers to join the nationwide strike.

And any worker who will flout the directive of your board should declare him or herself as having terminated the appointment if you join the strike." The impending strike on October 10 is organized by various labor groups in response to the ongoing illegal mining activities that have wreaked havoc on Ghana's environment and economy.

The galamsey crisis has been a contentious issue in the country, causing significant ecological damage, pollution of water bodies, and contributing to the loss of livelihoods for many communities.
