The Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has laid out Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's transformative vision for the country's future.The minister, who was addressing an audience of Law students, academics and political enthusiasts at the maiden edition of Election 2024 Dialogue at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra, spelt out Dr Bawumia's goals for economic transformation, governance reforms and social inclusion.The event, organised by the GIMPA Law Students' Association (LSA), was designed to engage political leaders and policymakers ahead of the 2024 elections.The dialogue series serves as a platform for the NPP to outline its vision for the future of the country and make a case for why the electorate should support Dr Bawumia in the upcoming elections.Similar events will take place on the various university campuses in the country.Objectives In his role as the Vice-Chair of the NPP Manifesto Committee, Mr Oppong Nkrumah articulated the party's strategic objectives, which, he said, were aimed at securing long-term growth and development for the country.At the heart of Dr Bawumia's vision, he said, was a bold economic transformation plan that sought to address the country's pressing challenges of unemployment, inflation and slow industrialisation.He said the manifesto was rooted in a pragmatic approach to boost both macroeconomic stability and inclusive economic growth. "We cannot afford to do business as usual.
Dr Bawumia's vision is to fundamentally shift the structure of Ghana's economy from one that is overly dependent on raw materials to one driven by value addition, technology and innovation," Mr Oppong Nkrumah said.
IndustrialisationThe minister outlined plans to promote industrialisation through the establishment of technology hubs, industrial parks, and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to foster job creation and elevate the country's position in the global value chain.There is also a focus on leveraging digital technology to formalise the economy and increase government revenue."We have already seen the benefits of digital transformation through initiatives like mobile money interoperability and the Ghana Card, but the next phase of this vision is to integrate these into broader financial systems that support businesses and create jobs for our young people," he said.ReformsMr Oppong Nkrumah also highlighted key aspects of Dr Bawumia's vision that address governance reforms.They include plans for a more efficient and transparent government system that would improve service delivery across all sectors."Dr Bawumia's leadership is built on a foundation of accountability and transparency.
Under his presidency, we will implement reforms that hold public officials accountable, ensure that government spending is efficient, and also root out corruption at all levels of public service," he said.Areas such as health, education and infrastructure would also be modernised to make them more responsive to the needs of citizens.The minister added that the NPP would introduce digital governance tools that would streamline bureaucratic processes and improve citizen engagement. Affordable HousingOn affordable Housing, he said: "Our manifesto addresses the housing deficit head-on, with plans to scale up affordable housing projects across the country".The minister said there would be public-private partnerships to develop housing units for low-and-middle-income citizens which would prioritise transparency, accessibility and sustainability.Speaking on job creation, he said that Dr Bawumia's leadership would focus on creating opportunities for young people through skills training, entrepreneurship programmes and educational reforms. "We have millions of young people entering the workforce every year, and Dr Bawumia's government will ensure that they are equipped with the skills they need to thrive in a modern economy," Mr Oppong Nkrumah said."Dr Bawumia is committed to building a Ghana that is prosperous, inclusive and resilient.
