The University of Ghana branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has voted to join Organised Labour's industrial action over illegal small-scale mining (Galamsey).
Out of the 443 members who voted on Tuesday, October 8, 355, representing 80.14% voted "Yes" to join the strike whereas 88, representing 19.6% voted "No". "No".
Members of Organised Labour had resolved to proceed with the nationwide strike on October 10 despite being urged by President Akufo-Addo to give him more time to address their concerns during a meeting on October 4.
