The Ghanaian government is taking significant steps to address the pressing issue of illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, through a newly formulated six-point action plan.

This initiative was outlined in a letter from Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, directed to the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

The letter follows a crucial meeting between President Akufo-Addo and members of Organized Labour, signalling a united front against the rampant illegal mining activities that have been wreaking havoc on the country's environment and economy.

One of the core commitments of the action plan is to foster collaboration with various stakeholders, including organized labor and environmental groups, to effectively tackle illegal mining.
