Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Engineer Dr Clifford Braimah is making a strong case for the creation of a district out of the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region.
He emphasized that decentralization is key to development, especially for deprived communities.
Addressing the chiefs and people of the Klor Traditional Area at this year's Damana celebration, the GWCL MD intimated the need for the creation of a district out of the East Gonja municipality. "Looking at this part of the municipality, it is deprived and so if they get their own district, it will easily influence development to the area." "The area is vast and the resources available are not enough but if they get their own district, they will have their own Assembly Common Fund and other funds which they will use to develop the area," he suggested.
Dr Braimah gave the assurance that the NPP government prioritizes decentralization as a means of development and so will consider the applications submitted by the chiefs "We will push for the creation of the district since we believe decentralization is a catalyst for development.
