Lawyer Elorm Ama Governor-Ababio, popularly known in the media space as Ama Governor together with eight other protesters in the Democracy Hub Demo has been slapped with GHc 70, 000 bail each with two sureties.The Democracy Hub protesters were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful gathering, unlawful damage, offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, assaulting a public officer and defacement of public property.
The total protesters arrested during the demonstration numbered about 50.
The Democracy Hub embarked on a demonstration to register the displeasure of the devastating impact of illegal mining, popularly known as galasmey.
After the arrest of the demonstrators, there were several calls for the release of the protesters in Ghana as well as in the UK, as some described the action of the police as unlawful and an abuse of the fundamental human rights of the protesters.
