Lawyer Martin Kpebu has expressed strong criticism of the Ghana Police Service for their treatment of detainees, particularly concerning the provision of food.

Speaking on TV3's Key Points monitored by MyNewsGH.com, Kpebu emphasized that it is the police's responsibility to ensure that those in their custody are provided with necessities. "It's the responsibility of the police to provide food to those in their custody," he asserted, referencing a document known as Service Instructions that governs police conduct.

He further stated, "If they don't want to provide food, they should grant bail.

But leaving detainees hungry is simply unacceptable." Kpebu's comments come amidst growing concerns over police conduct in Ghana, with many citizens feeling that law enforcement is operating outside the bounds of legality. "We are operating like a banana republic," he remarked, highlighting the disconnection between the constitutional framework and the actions of the police.
