Bokpin, a Professor of Finance and Economist at the University of Ghana has asserted that if Organized Labour decides to call off their strike slated on October 10, 2024, all hope is lost in the fight against the galamsey.
During a discussion on Joy News' News File, Professor Godfred Bokpin said that Ghanaian citizens who are being used for this galamsey activities are not benefiting massively from the mining.
He further added that the faces behind the activities are the Chinese and other nationals of the Arab countries because mere galamseyers cannot afford excavators and the chanffans which has very expensive to procure The Senior Lecturer emphasized that due to the weak boarders Ghana has, the gold being mined at illegal places are being smuggled into countries like Togo, Benin, Uganda, Rwanda.
