News outlet Citi FM has reported that over 40 illegal miners have escaped arrest after swimming across the Birim River after a task force chase.According to the report, 20 chanfans polluting the river in Atewa West were set on fire. One Togolese national was arrested, and mining equipment was seized.The culprit was kept at the Kwabeng police station before subsequently transported to the Kibi Divisional Police Command where they are expected to be processed for court.However, the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners has urged the public to help locate illegal miners in the fight against galamsey operators.Speaking to peace news reporter, Jesse Amankwah, the President of Small Scale Mining Association in the Region, Mr.

Mohammed Amao, said the activities of the illegal miners have led to the destruction of water bodies, several cocoa farms, and palm oil plantations in the area and also has negatively affected the activities of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the area.
