Leaked intimate video has severely embarrassed me; I’m sorry - Serwaa Amihere

Broadcast journalist Serwaa Amihere, has spoken for the first time since an intimate video of her went viral on social media.

The video shows the popular media personality in bed with a man, now identified as Henry Fitz.

Online speculations suggested that the video was shot in 2019, long before the said man got married.

But others claim Serwaa attended the man’s wedding as a guest and ended up having an affair with him, a narration that has angered many who have condemned and trolled her considering her standing in society.

Others have also questioned why a woman of her calibre could video herself or allow her intimate engagement to be recorded.

In a statement issued and shared on her X account on the evening of Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Serwaa apologised for the embarrassment the incident has caused her family, employers, loved ones and the businesses and brands she represents.

Serwaa confirmed that the video was taken five years ago, adding that, at the time, “I considerably underestimated the extent of my influence, my potential, what I would become, and what I would come to represent to this society.”

According to her, the video finally went out "after five months of threats and extortion, along with efforts by the police to bring the extortionists to book."

Nonetheless, Serwaa said she has learnt useful lessons from the unfortunate episode.

“In all, I have learnt deeply useful lessons for the future” she noted.

While some members of the public had called for her to be suspended or sacked by her employers, EIB Network, the company said it is conducting an independent investigation and will publish its findings.

It acknowledged, however, that the Police were also investigating the matter and had arrested some persons in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Serwaa has not been seen lately on TV since the incident.

Background

According to the suit, someone had first called Serwaa Amihere’s make-up artiste demanding she informs the journalist to pay a sum of GH₵5,000 or risk having some nude pictures shared publicly.

The number, on which the mobile money transaction was made, was registered in the name of the first accused Edem Saviour Ketti, the suit read.

Despite the initial payment, Serwaa Amihere received a second threat from an unknown number that demanded a lump sum of GH₵20,000, the police added.

However, the accused persons still published the video after they received the money requested, the suit indicated.

The suit further states that Serwaa Amihere reported the case to the police, and upon surveillance mounted, the first accused was arrested at his hideout at Dzorwulu.

During investigations, he allegedly admitted to having used his Ghana Card to register the said mobile money account number and handed it to the second accused, before it was handed to the third accused.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to apprehend Henry Fitz, who is currently at large, as investigations continue.
