Gyampo warns NPP against using invectives on Naana Opoku-Agyemang

Political science professor at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo has warned the governing NPP against attacking the person of the newly selected NDC running mate, Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

According to Prof. Gyampo, any such act can easily be construed as an attack on womanhood.

Speaking to Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Tuesday, he said any critique of the former Education Minister should “be fair and based only on issues and her track record.”

Communicators of the NPP, he said, “must not fall for the trap of political suicide by saying nasty things that may be interpreted as an attack on womanhood.”

This, he argued can quickly backfire should a constituency of women decide to mobilise and support their own.

Prof. Gyampo’s comment’s comments come a day after the NDC revealed the identity of presidential nominee John Mahama’s running mate.

The announcement put to bed months of speculation and numerous fake news publications about a running mate choice for the biggest opposition party.

The veteran educationist and former Vice Chancellor of University of Cape Coast (UCC) released a statement accepting the appointment.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang must ready for fire ahead

Few hours after the announcement, however, the NPP organized a press conference, impugning the NDC’s choice of a running mate.

National Communications Director of the governing party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa said John Mahama’s choice of a running mate meant he does not take Ghanaians seriously.

He said Prof. Opoku-Agyemang superintended the cancellation of teacher trainee allowances, the non-payment of full arrears due to newly recruited teachers and many more.

According to the Adentan MP, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang being a woman has not proven in time past to be someone who foregrounds the interest of women.

He said the former Minister was among a league of Ministers and NDC faithful who petitioned then president Mahama to release some NDC communicators who were jailed for contempt of court after they threatened to rape then Chief Justice Georgina Wood on live radio.

The NPP says Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang should ready herself for the fire ahead.
