The best running mate will make no difference if the President is incompetent – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says no government will thrive if it has a very competent Vice President but an incompetent or indecisive President.

His comment follows a decision by President Akufo-Addo to retain him as his running mate ahead of the December 7 polls.

“The best running mate will make no difference if the President is indecisive and incompetent,” he said.

Mr. Bawumia who was expressing his gratitude to the President and members of the NPP’s National Council for their support said he was optimistic the decisive nature of President Akufo-Addo will play a role in his re-election.

He said he was grateful that President Akufo-Addo has given him another chance to be his running mate despite losing the elections in 2008 and 2012.

Months after the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), elected former President Mahama as its flagbearer, Mr. Mahama is yet to announce his running mate.

With less than seven months to the general elections, many have alleged that the former president is indecisive of who he should select as his running mate.

The NDC has been trolled on several occasion for their delay in coming out with a name.

While throwing jabs at the NDC during his acceptance speech, Mr Baumia indicated that his position as a running mate and Vice President will be meaningless if he does not have an efficient, competent and decisive President to support his works. 

“I am thankful that in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, I have a strong decisive incorruptible and competent President.

“Mr. Chairman all I can say now is that I wholeheartedly and with all humility accept the nomination and I am ready and prepared to serve.

“I say to President Nana Addo, the NPP and Ghanaians that I am reporting for duty as running mate to His Excellency President Akufo-addo, the current and insah allah the next president of the republic of Ghana,” he said.
