SHAPE workshop: Afri-Consult equips management staff with attitudes, skillsets

Afri-Consult has collaborated with South Africa-based Free To Grow to deliver ‘SHAPE’, a one day program that equips for senior management.

The workshop provided participants with the attitudes and skillsets to create a culture of engagement and collaboration in an organisation.

The ‘SHAPE’ training programme held at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra Wednesday,  brought together leaders from the financial, manufacturing, services and construction sectors.

Staff of companies including Multichoice Ghana Limited, Benso Oil palm Plantation, Omni BSIC bank, SIC Financial Services Limited and Tema Oil Refinery.

Others are Jospong Group, Fidelity Bank, Mawums limited and Ghana Civil Aviation Limited.

Senior leaders in organisations have been known to set the priorities, goals and objectives of the business. Even more, they set the cultural tone of the organisation.

Although these leaders recognize the central role employee engagement plays in driving profit and growth, it is frequently viewed as a minor ‘initiative’ that can be delegated to the Human Resource Department ‘when and if’ funds are available, or to be presented as a feel-good factor at kick-off events.

SHAPE is a “Free To Grow” training program that assists senior leaders to shape the culture they want to see in their respective organisations.

Martin Atta-Fynn, the Managing Director of Afri-Consult said in today’s challenging business environment a culture of collaboration and engagement is critical.

“Organisations need to be able to fully utilise the potential of every employee to remain competitive. They can no longer tolerate passive passengers hanging on for what they ‘get’ from the organisation instead of what they can ‘give.’

Leaders are the key drivers in creating such a culture. The reality, however, is that most leaders are so occupied with the challenge of ‘managing’ that they do not focus on proactively developing culture.

In this hands-on, interactive one-day workshop, Alinda Nortje, Founder and CEO of Free To Grow, brought together cutting edge international research on Culture and Employee Engagement with best practices identified through Free To Grow’s work over 25 years, 33 countries and in 1260 organisations such as Coca-Cola, Distell and SABMiller.

This programme promises inspired the participants to be the change they want to see in their organisations. They were equipped  with the skills and tools to answer questions such as

- What is employee engagement and why has it become essential in today’s organisations? How can it give your organisation an edge with your customers and help you attract and retain key talent?

- What are the signs, symptoms and impact of employees who are engaged (paddlers), not engaged (passengers) and actively disengaged (pirates)?

- What are the drivers of engagement in the physical and psychological work environment? Which of these are most important and what role does money play?

Alinda brings to the programme 30 years of experience in the field of culture and learning.

She has designed employee engagement, leadership development and culture programmes for implementation across Africa, and is held in high regard as a leader in this field.

Alinda has personally presented some of these programmes in Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Namibia and Botswana, and has an in-depth understanding of how to make these programmes work across countries and industries.
