Ghana 0-0 South Africa: Black Stars players rated

The Black Stars despite playing so well with the many chances created against South Africa in their last Afcon pre friendly failed to score at the Police Academy Stadium in Dubai on Saturday.

Here are Joy Sports player ratings:

RICHARD OFORI: Reacted smartly anytime called upon but wasn't very busy throughout the game as compared to the South African goalkeepers. 7

ANDY YIADOM: Defended very well and made it very difficult for South African Star player Percy Tau to make his usual runs on the left side of attack. The attacking flair he adds to the team on the right is encouraging but will need to work more on his crossing ability. 7

LUMOR AGBEYENOR: A natural left-footed who looked very comfortable and controlled the game at his side. Always at the right place at the right time defensively. 8

JOHN BOYE: His partnership with Kassim Nuhu at the back was brilliant as he knew when to move and when not to. At times will try to take the ball to the South Africans and almost all the times he did that was fouled in the center area.  He continues to affirm why he can never be overlooked at least for now when call ups for the Black Stars are made. 8

KASSIM NUHU: Powerful in the air and on the ground as well. Looked very comfortable as he cleared the few dangerous balls that came to the Ghana area.  He was part of the three players that lasted the entire duration of the game.9

KWADWO ASAMOAH. What a performance it was from the Inter Milan player.  Bossed the midfield and was Ghana's best player on the pitch until he got substituted. 9

THOMAS PARTEY: Always a threat for opponents and the South Africans had it very difficult time dealing with him and Asamoah in midfield. He tried one of his trademark long-range shots but unfortunately missed. Very good display it was from the Atletico Madrid man. 8

ANDRE AYEW: Played behind his brother Jordan Ayew and he looked very sharp, his movement was great and created quite a number of chances. 8

CHRISTIAN ATSU: Started the game on a quiet note but eventually came to light after the first 20 minutes and started causing troubles for the South Africans on the right side of attack. Made some few brilliant runs into the box and was very sharp as always. 7

THOMAS AGYEPONG: Smart to read play and was brilliant anytime on the ball.  Just as Atsu, Agyepong also made brilliant runs to the box and in fact came close to scoring but was denied but SA goalie Darren Keet. 8

JORDAN AYEW:  The few opportunities that came to Jordan were well executed but the goalkeeper of SA wouldn't allow the ball in. He, in fact, scored a legitimate goal which was overruled by the Referee. 7

SUBSTITUTES:

JONATHAN MENSAH: Jonathan kept the back line shape very well after he had come on for John Boye. He was powerful in the air and dealt nicely with the few dangerous situations that came in the second half. 7

BABA RAHMAN: First time seeing Rahman playing at a very close range since recovering from the injury he picked during the last edition of the tournament. He looked very sharp on the left as always. 7

MUBARAK WAKASO: Brought some energy in the midfield and made it difficult for South Africa to go pass the Ghana area. Gave a beautiful cross which nearly resulted in a goal. He was very good when he came on in the second period. 8

AFRIYIE ACQUAH: Another impressive display for the Italy based man. Always back to help the defence and called for balls from them to start an attack. 7

KWABENA OWUSU: Not a bad performance from him but I thought he could have scored Ghana's first goal when an Andy Yiadom cross found him but didn't go up that well to connect. But his runs on the right side of attack was good. 7

SAMUEL OWUSU: Another impressive outing for this young man, very sharp, pacey and had foot works. Difficult dispossessing him and also came close to scoring when his long-range shot was saved. 8

CALEB EKUBAN: Caleb's positioning always amazing and he showed why he has been selected to part of the final team. He had a decent game when he came on. 7

ASAMOAH GYAN: Gyan came very close from scoring after his brilliant header came off the upright. He looked very fit and made impressive runs in the goal area. He made the South Africans defence looked jittery and was always a threat anytime he had the ball. 8
