JoyNews’ Justice Baidoo heads to L.A Times as 2019 Press Partners Fellowship winner

JoyNews’ journalist, Justice Baidoo has been named an Alfred Friendly Journalism Fellow for his dedicated coverage of food security in Ghana.

Justice, a winner of several journalism awards including the 2018 Global Health Reporting Contest in New York would spend the next one month studying at the Missouri School of Journalism and another five months at the Los Angeles Times.

The Press Partners Fellowship, now in its 35th year, is run in honour of Alfred Friendly, the Pulitzer-Prize winning editor of the Washington Post.  

Since 1984, more than 330 reporters, editors and broadcasters from more than 80 countries have trained in the program and worked in newsrooms around the United States.

“Justice was selected after a rigorous process that involved dozens of applicants and several rounds of judging”, said David Reed, the Program’s Director.

The five fellows selected for this year’s programme are from Russia, India, Maldova, Ghana and Afghanistan.

“I think this is another testament of the great journalism that we do here at JoyNews. It is in recognition of the hard work that we put into the work we do here and so this award is to everyone in this award-winning team” Justice told Myjoyonline.com.

This year’s fellows would be working in top US newsrooms like the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Newsy.

The Alfred Friendly Press Partners fellowship bonds journalists with news organizations from information hungry societies and prepares them to practice professional, ethical, and innovative journalism.

The programme accomplishes this through hands-on training in U.S. and international newsrooms and within the Missouri School of Journalism.
