Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, has warned electoral officials that tampering with election results or rigging elections in favour of a particular political party or candidate will result in prosecution.

He also stated that investigating electoral rigging falls under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and that he does not need to wait for the Supreme Court before investigating any electoral rigging.

“If you are an electoral officer or a returning officer and you change the results, I will pursue you…

“As soon as you declare the results, I’m going after it, matching polling stations, matching pink sheets with pink sheets, and if they don’t tally, I’m going after you,” Mr Agyebeng said on Wednesday’s Starr Chat.

Mr Agyebeng also dismissed allegations made by his predecessor, Martin Amidu, that he is a pawn of the ruling NPP government.

Mr Agyebeng believes Mr Amidu’s claims are unfortunate, adding that he is a man of integrity who will not be swayed by the government.

Mr Agyebeng also revealed that people are praying and fasting for him to fail in his new job.

He stated that while some people want him to fail, there are also well-meaning Ghanaians who want the fight against corruption to be a success.

“I shrugged when I heard Martin Amidu’s ‘poodle’ remark. If you don’t know who I am and you sit in your house and write something for people to believe you, that’s you. I knew it would be a difficult task, but I hadn’t planned on going into an office that hadn’t been properly set up. That meant I had to go back and revise my notes.”

“Why should you be afraid if you have done nothing wrong?” I’m coming for you if you’re involved in corrupt activities. I see some people on the other side of the divide praying and fasting that I fail. There are naysayers everywhere… Some well-meaning individuals want this fight to be successful.”
