Some group of feminists are roasting President Akufo-Addo for appointing only 8 female ministers for his second term governemnt.

This agitation from these individuals who claim they are there to protect the right and dignity of women comes on the back of thewhich the president has submitted to Parliament for approval.

President Akufo-Addo did not only reduce the number of ministers from 126 to 85 but also excluded some individuals from his government. The initial list of 46 nominees has only 6 female Ministers-designate and 2 female Regional Minsters-designate.

Following that oneof the FemInStyle Africa writes in a Facebook post that they feel disappointed that President Akufo-Addo did not appoint more than 8 female ministers.

She wrote:

FemInStyle Africa is beyond disappointed that the government of Ghana has nominated eight women for ministerial positions out of the 46 candidates they have tabled. This constitutes about 17 percent of his proposed government, well below the international standard set to be 30% by 2030. For a President who holds the AU Gender Champion award, this is very disgraceful.

In the week where the world is celebrating an historical moment in the history of women’s representation, this move by the Ghanaian government sets women’s representation back by a few decades.

Given that women make up more than half of the voting population, it is only fair that you recognize their unique contributions to the development agenda by giving them adequate representation.

Mr. President, this is how you amplify women in your party! These women have worked hard and deserve a seat at the table. Make it happen!

That was not all as of PepperDem said she is not surprised at President’s Akufo-Addo’s list of ministers that has few women representation. According to her, the president does not believe in women and he showed it when former President Mahama chose Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang as Running-mate.

She wrote:

“This is the party that sent a known feminist to denigrate and belittle the nomination of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s VP candidacy and sent their female appointees to hold a presser to shade gender activists. Really, what were you expecting?”
