New UN Youth Ghana executives sworn into office

Newly appointed executive including new directors and two country heads of the United Nations Ghana, (UN Youth Ghana) were sworn into office at the Chapman Conference Room of the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs in Accra.

The swearing in ceremony was performed for them to begin a two-year term in office.
They are the Country Head in Charge of UN Youth Organization in Ghana, John Vinzelts; deputy Country Head, Miss Lilian sally Addo; a legal council, directors, regional coordinators, country reps, district reps among others.

Country Head of the association, John Vinzelts in his speech vouched for the team spirit of the new executive, adding that it was committed to working hard to conscientize the youth on the need to understand peace and security.

As part of efforts to expedite the activities of the UN Youth Ghana, the Country Head said lots of youth clubs will be formed across the country as attractive and educative activities are also introduced.

The Un Youth Ghana is a national charity youth-led and advocacy organization, uniting, mobilizing and empowering young People to lead change, and teaches them about their rights & their responsibilities to help develop Ghana beyond Aid.

In order to facilitate the activities of the association, Deputy Country head for the UN Youth Ghana, Miss Lilian Sally Addo noted that the association was working to ensure that UN Youth Clubs are formed on the campuses of the various schools and Universities.

She said the organization will organize social programs such as fun games to drive its focus area of building peace and security, adding that the association equally embarks on medical outreach platforms to offer it the opportunity to reach out to the youth.

Unemployment remains one of the major difficulties facing most Ghanaian youth, a challenge, Country Head of UN Youth Ghana prioritizes. John Vinzelts in an interview with Rite news after the event prioritized the empowerment of the country’s youths and observed unemployment as one of the key challenges confronting the Ghanaian youth.

He averred that one way out of tackling the employment phenomenon is to empower them as the UN Youth Ghana works closely with the Ghanaian government. “Unemployment remains one of the major challenges confronting the youth and we are going to empower the youth in our bid to address this challenge,” he assured.

The UN Youth Ghana Country Head who said the group was working in harmony with government and civil society groups was hopeful that the group would promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure that its goals are achieved by 2030, adding that it would also ensure that every young person in Ghana has access to education.

On his part, Public Relations Officer of the UN Youth Ghana, Mr. Richmond Amofa Sarpong who noted that the organization is duly recognized by the United Nations, the government of Ghana and the Ministry of foreign affairs was committed to “building its own young people capable of taking over the smooth administration of society, in Ghana and the world as a whole.”

He avers that the organization is focused with the mandate of ensuring that young people are well equipped, resourced and provided with the right information they need to move the world forward. He added that the UN Youth Ghana will involve its target group in various sectors of nation building.

The executives also spoke about the association’s coming projects for establishment of recreational and innovations centre for the Youth, Community Health Facilities, Amusement Park, etc. which will promote the Roles of SDG Goals in Ghana and serve as an equal medium to achieve the SDG Goals in Africa and to promote Peace through Talents, Arts and Entertainment.

The UN Youth organization is targeting a large number of youth groups needing particular and specific interventions. These include tertiary and Senior High School students, unemployed youth, young men and women, youth on drugs & alcohol, youth from different racial groups, etc.

From the description of Youth from United Nations perspective with a global population of over 1.8 billion people, the youth are the world’s greatest untapped resource, possessing the talents and ambition to overcome society’s biggest challenges. In order to achieve the 2030 Agenda, it is imperative to engage youth as beneficiaries, stakeholders, and leaders in the global movement for inclusive and sustainable development.
