Political thuggery: Peace Council calls for police action

Members of the National Peace Council (NPC) have entreated the Ghana Police Service to employ every strategy to end political thuggery in the country.

The Council made the appeal on Friday, 19 July 2019 after a meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr David Asante-Apeatu at the Police Headquarters in Accra to discuss pertinent issues about policing and peace in the country.

Other issues discussed include areas of collaboration between the police and the Peace Council and challenges the police officers face in performing their duties in various parts of the country.

They also deliberated on ways to strengthen the relationship between police commanders and political authorities and also how to promote police professionalism.

It was agreed during the meeting that both institutions hold regular interactive meetings and joint public education programmes to enhance public understanding of the functions of the police in ensuring peace in the country.
