Accra Village elders meet to discuss projects

Opinion Leaders of Accra Village near Anum Apapam in the Eastern Region, at a meeting, expressed concern about lack of development projects in the area.

“The situation will definitely drag the people to the “poverty and hunger zone”, the leaders stated.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) shortly after the meeting at Accra Village in the Ayensuano District, Mr Enock Adjetey Adjei, opinion leader and a spokesman for the people said social amenities had eluded the residents for long.

He noted that several appeals to the district assembly, the Member of Parliament and benevolent organisations had not yielded any positive result, and therefore, reiterated the need for the government to provide the community with development projects.

Mr Adjetey listed priority social amenities like electricity, potable water, clinic and good roads from Achiansa through Accra Village to Abobri.

According to him, the residents regretted that those in responsible positions failed to fix a damaged bridge over the Kua River, which was constructed in 1980.

The opinion leader pointed out that the “JJ Administration’s” gesture for the bridge, assisted in the evacuation of locked up cocoa and food items in the area and wondered why succeeding governments neglected fixing the bridge which had totally collapsed.

He was emphatic that the poor state of the road-turned foot-paths in the area was affecting the carting of cocoa and other cash crops, adding that, when it rained school children from Abobri, Kwasi Komfo and Ateibu, on that stretch of route, could not cross the river to school at Achiansa.

Mr Adjetey was not happy about the situation where, school children and farmers meandered through the deplorable route and also walked to cross the river to school and market at Achiansa and back to their homes, and therefore, appealed to the government to bring development projects to the area to help enhance their standards of living.
