One-District-One-Dam on course; 200 dams to be completed by June – PRO

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry for Special Development Initiatives, Awudu Moro Kabore has revealed that 200 dams under the One-District-One-Dam project are set to be completed by June, 2019.

To Mr Kabore, who reiterated the government’s commitment to construct 570 dams in the North East, Northern and Savannah regions of Ghana for improved irrigation farming, the project is on course and Ghanaians will soon see the promises fulfilled.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s anti-corruption segment ‘Fabewoso’ on Dwaso Nsem, Mr Kabore said most of the projects are at their final stages of completion.

“Work is in progress and we are hopeful they will see the full benefit of the dams by next month,” he said.

Reacting to the size of the dams and their description as dugouts, Mr Kabore said “the dams under the initiative are simple dams but in the middle of each dam, there is a dugout within a small dam.

“But claims that the embankment of some dams are being washed off is because work on them is not completely done,” he added.

However, the Chief of Bongo, Naba Akaliga II has stated that the newly constructed dams do not qualify to be called so.

“It’s only for children to be playing football but not a dam. It is a piece of football park being constructed because the depth of the dam is not known, so in fact it is not a dam,” he criticised.
