Irate youth who attacked me must be arrested – Krachi West DCE

The District Chief Executive Officer for the Krachi West District in the Oti Region who was forcefully dragged out of his office on Tuesday by some irate New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth, is calling for the arrest of his attackers.

The youth claimed that the DCE was working against the interest of the NPP, and that since his appointment, he has done very little to help the party.

They presented a petition to the leadership of the NPP in the area, and further accused the DCE of failing to avail himself to the party members and the community.

They also accused him of taking unilateral decisions that affect the party.

The DCE, Osei-Nti Douglas, while recounting his ordeal, told Citi News that he has lodged an official complaint with the police over the incident.

“About five, six guys used their leg to hit my door open, entered and surrounded me by my table. They also snatched my two mobile phones from me and asked me to choose between life and death. So I asked them what for and they said they were not ready for any argument…I thank God I am still alive…I have filed a formal complaint with the Police. I want the law to take its own course. Maybe to invite or arrest [the culprits].”

The group, calling themselves “Concerned NPP Youth of Krachi” dragged the DCE out of his office and locked him out over what they described as his “incompetent leadership” and his “deliberate refusal” to support the interests of the NPP in the area.

The youth said the DCE, Mr. Osei-Nti Douglas, since his appointment has done very little to sustain the lot of the NPP in the district which is located in the newly-created Oti Region.

Mr. Nsekolente Amos, who presented the petition on behalf of the group also accused Mr. Osei-Nti of corrupt practices.

“The DCE threw caution to the wind and paid a sum of GHc116,000 to an individual in the name of judgement debt. He has been surcharged by the Auditor General’s department but he has been heard saying he will not pay,” the group alleged.

The group claimed that Mr. Osei-Nti operated a landing beach called the“Brukutu landing beach” through which he allegedly sells premix fuel illegally and pockets the money against the regulations on the supply of the fuel.

The group also accused the DCE of acting arrogantly since his appointment and not availing himself to businessmen who come to invest in the area.

The group also alleged that a mechanic has also seized a Nissan patrol car that was being used by Mr. Osei-Nti due to his failure to pay for its maintenance.

The group said the DCE’s actions are causing “disaffection and apathy for the party in the area” hence their call for his removal.
