Naa Atwei, others honoured at the Clean Ghana Concert Award

This Year’s Clean Ghana Concert Award,2019, came off at the National Theatre, with a number of outstanding individuals and institutions receiving awards for their contributions towards the promotion of good sanitation through creative art.

Highlights of the event included the honouring of Mrs Naa Atwei Oduro of Accra FM, Madam Akosua Agyepong, Nii Odartei Lamptey (Gasmilla), Frank Osei Afriyie (Wutah), Ito Bobo and Kofi Tankas, with a Sanitation Advocacy Excellence Award for their unending promotion of good sanitation and hygiene.

There were also great performances from the likes of Derrick Kobina Bonney (DKB), David Kumordzie, (Toogbe Ghana), Faustina Owusu (Faustie D Sanitation), Henry Adesi Koffie and Benedicta Wooley (Too Cute and low key), Kaleb Obeng (OK D Poet) Abdul Rashid (Docile Rash) Hyginus Laari (Mr SDGs) and who execelled in poetry, songs, movies catoons, articles and artefact.

The Clean Ghana Concert Award, organized by the Clean Ghana Action Ambassadors, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources (MSWR), seek to promote good sanitation through creative art to educate people on the need for a collective responsibility to ensure a clean environment in all communities in Ghana.

Other media institutions, such as Amansan TV, Ocean 1 TV, Citi FM, received media Sanitation Advocacy Award, Zoomlion Ghana, Best Waste Management Company Award, Environmental Services Providers Association (ESPA), the Most Supportive Waste Management Company, Point Studio, Best Cartoonist, Best Recycling Company was won by Jekora Ventures and Pentecost Church, Best Religious Organisation for the Sanitation Award.

Mrs Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, (MSWR) in a speech read for her by Mr Anthony Mensah, a Director at MSWR, advised the youth to act as ambassadors of the environment to ensure environmental cleanliness.

She said the country’s effort to maintain environmental cleanliness would be enhanced if the youth took the responsibility to be one another’s keeper. She congratulated the Clean Ghana Action Ambassadors for organising the programme and urged them to continue, supporting, empowering and educating the youth on environmental issues.

Mr Emmanuel Acheampong, Executive Director of Clean Ghana Action Ambassadors, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the concert was to provide a platform for the youth to exhibit their hidden talents by using creative art to educate the people on good sanitation.

He said it was important for all interested groups in the country to support the initiative, adding that, “Good works by people must be rewarded to inspire the younger generation to work harder”.

Mr Acheampong called for more collaboration and support from other NGOs to sustain the initiative.
