MP for Shai Osudoku holds media encounter, donates to constituents

Honourable Linda Akweley Obenewaa Ocloo, Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku on Thursday donated tricycles and motorbikes to various wards in her constituency.

The MP also commissioned a 6-seater toilet facility and three bathrooms as part of the activities on the day.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries during a media encounter dubbed accounting to the people, Hon Linda Ocloo, a Member Of Parliament’s Agric And Cocoa Affairs and Government’s Assurance Committees Of Parliament said despite the hindrances of opposition, she was nevertheless satisfied with the progress she has made.

The legislator who is serving her first term in office believes her first two years have been largely successful especially regarding strides made towards combating poverty, ignorance and diseases plaguing constituents.

The MP, fondly called ‘Show Mama’ by her constituents expressed her satisfaction at the developmental projects undertaken by her office within the period, adding that the modest achievements were accomplished despite the National Democratic Congress being in opposition.

Achievements

The successes chalked by the MP over two years span various sectors including agriculture, education, health and water sanitation, rural electrification projects, human capital and business development, security and fire prevention, sports development and traditional support.

‘Show Woman’ said her office roofed and renovated a six and three unit teachers’ accommodation at Huapa and Agbekotsekpo respectively and also renovated a three unit classroom block at Nyapienya. The renovation of the facilities is expected to boost teaching and learning activities in the various schools.

Additionally, some 440 students benefitted from educational support including counterpart support for five PhD students to pursue various programs abroad.

Thanks to the efforts of the Member of Parliament, electrification projects have been extended to nine electoral areas within the Shai Osudoku constituency. Beneficiary communities including Narhkope, Kwadwokope, Ayiborm, Avakpo-Duffour, Apese-Agomeda, Adakope, Asebi-Kutuwe, Ramatown, Volivo and Dodowa Finger of God.

The expansion of electrification projects forms part of the MP’s efforts to expand electricity supply to deprived areas to boost domestic and commercial activities.

Under human capital and business development, many have benefitted from several livelihood empowerment programs aimed at providing skills training and business capitals. These include the granting of soft loans to about 1000 persons under the Shai Osudoku Corporative Credit Union (SOCCU), 900 pieces of industrial and hand sewing machines and dryers to seamstresses, tailors and hairdressers and beauticians across the constituency, the establishment of 22 information centers in all the 22 electoral areas and the provision of 45 tricycles and motorbikes to persons in the constituency.

‘Show mama’ also disclosed that while her office provided over 500 streetlights throughout the constituency, her office also donated 32 inches television sets to various police stations as well as the donation of a bus and an amount of Ghc 10,000 to the traditional council and queen mothers respectively towards the purchasing of a bus.

Donations

Honourable Ocloo as part of the day’s activities donated some tricycles and motorbikes to some wards and also commissioned a 6-seater toilet and bath facility for the people of Odumase, a suburb of Dodowa.

The presentation of the items which were fully funded by the office of the MP, she reiterated, is geared towards providing revenue and will also serve as a welcome source of employment for many, strengthen accountability and also enable local participation.

The donation of the information equipment will also help in the dissemination of information to constituents.
