Be discipline, stay away from drugs – Minister to Ghanaian youth

The Member of Parliament of Weija-Gbawe constituency Tina Mensah has underscored the need for the Ghanaian youth to be discipline, honest and upright in their dealings.

Addressing a congregation at the inauguration of the New Gbawe District of the Apostolic Church of Ghana Tina Mensa who is also the Deputy Minister of Health charged the youth to embrace the virtues of hardwork, humility and sense of purpose.

She cautioned the youth against the abuse of drugs such as indian hemp, tramadol and others since they have the tendency of ruining their lives.

She bemoaned the practice where some Ghanaian youth speak to elders ‘disrespectfully’ in the name of ‘democracy’. She encouraged the youth to be modest and respect the elderly.

“In the sermon, the pastor preached about discipline. Discipline is the hallmark of everything. Our youth of today don’t have the patience and time to find out things. When they hear something they must go a step further and find out what it means. The type of democracy we are practicing is rather relegating the country to the backdrop”.

“There is no respect in the system, people are talk to elders without respecting them because they claim its their freedom to talk. This means we don’t understand the democracy we practicing. We are pleading with them to stay away from drugs. They should not rely on drugs and channel their energy into doing something meaningful for the country”, she said.

The first vice-chairman of the of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, Reverend Christian Kwesi Nartey explained that the creation of the new district is to ensure decentralization of the church’s activities and also bring about development.



He opined that the creation of the Gbawe district will afford some of the youth in the church a chance to assume leadership positions in the church.

“It is not easy to shepherd many members so we create district to bring out the talent and gift we have as far as leadership is concerned to man the smaller districts. When you create district, you also bring about development and also put leaders in place because we have talents in the church so when you create districts, you allow for the talents and individual brilliance to come out”.
