Joy News exposé: Ghana Museums contradicts information on its website

The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board has contradicted information on its website in a bid to discredit Joy News’ latest exposé on political party militia.

In a statement Monday, the Museums Board said the Christiansborg Castle popularly called the Osu Castle is a museum and not a security zone by virtue of a declaration by President Nana Akufo Addo.

“The Osu Castle has since this act, above stated, by the President of the Republic, has and to date remains a museum,” the statement said.

Their statement, issued on Monday came to corroborate the government’s reactions to a Joy News expose which detailed how the Osu Castle which is the former seat of government is being used as a training ground and headquarters for a militia group affiliated to the governing NPP.

The group, De-Eye according to the documentary is a group which provides security for members of the NPP and hold allegiance to the party and President.

Checks from the National Security confirmed they are not registered to perform or offer such services.

The Minister of State at the Ministry of National Security confirmed the leader of the group, ‘Choman’ who is a former personal bodyguard of Nana Akufo-Addo used the Castle for some activities but said he has since been ousted.

The Minister, Bryan Acheampong said Choman was thrown out of the Castle in October 2018 but also said he and his De-Group which according to him is a harmless group celebrated an end of year party at the Castle.

The documentary described the Castle as a security zone which the government has since objected; arguing that it is a museum.

The Museums Board in its standing with the government released a statement to support the claim.

Unfortunately, their official website does not have the Christiansborg castle as part of the country’s museums.
