“I will be happy if Chris Hughton adds a few U-23 players to his squad” – Yaw Acheampong

Ex-Ghana international, Yaw Acheampong says he will be happy if Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton ropes in a number of the U-23 players into the senior national team.

The former Newcastle United manager was at the Baba Yara Stadium to watch the Black Meteors qualify for the AFCON U-23 tournament in Morocco in June.

A spirited performance saw the team hold Algeria to a 1-1 draw in Annaba with the reverse fixture ending 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Yaw Acheampong believes the players who played well could be given a shot at the Black Stars in future.

“Chris was with the team [Black Stars] in Qatar and he was able to learn a lot of things about the team.

“So why not, if he sees somebody in the U-23 team who can be in his team to move him forward why not he can bring him on board.

It has been 19-years since the Black Meteors qualified for the festival after last appearing in Athens 2004.
