Tottenham ready to rival Arsenal in the race to land Feyenoord star Orkun Kokcu

Tottenham are interested in Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu - who is a long term target for arch rivals Arsenal.

The 20-year-old is viewed as one of the brightest talents in Europe and is attracting admiring glances from across the continent.

Arsenal have a long standing interest in Kokcu having tried to sign the player in 2020 but local rivals Tottenham are now ready to go head-to-head with the Gunners in the race for the Turkey International.

There remains uncertainty over who will be head coach at Spurs next season with Jose Mourinho under pressure to arrest a disappointing second half to the season.

Nevertheless, Tottenham recruitment staff have identified Kokcu as a player who can help improve the team’s fortunes next season regardless of who is in charge.

Sportsmail understands that Spurs have communicated with Orkun's representatives to register their interest and will continue to be updated on his future.

Returning from a two month injury lay-off in January, Kokcu has impressed in Holland since his return to fitness and displays have not gone unnoticed.

He was named in the Eredivisie team of the month for February and March and the Dutch top-flight’s young player of the month for March.

Kokcu would highly likely qualify for a work permit under new Brexit laws because he is a starting player for Feyenoord and a full international.
