Usain Bolt picks Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi as the greatest player of all time

Usain Bolt picked Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi as the greatest player of all time, despite supporting the Barcelona captain's national side Argentina.

The eight-time Olympic gold medallist admitted Ronaldo's links to Manchetser United influenced his decision, with the sprinter a big fan of the Red Devils.

But he also insisted the Portgual international has more to his game than the Argentine because of his success in various leagues in Europe.

'It is difficult for me to choose because I support Argentina, but I am a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo,' Bolt told Gazetta dello Sport.

'I admire Ronaldo since he played for Manchester United and I support the Red Devils.

'I think he has something more than Messi because he has proven himself in many leagues.

'That's why I choose Ronaldo.'

Ronaldo has won 28 domestic trophies across three countries while Messi has picked up 34 pieces of silverware with Barca.

Bolt was crowned the fastest man in the world when he broke the 100m sprint record with a time of 9.58 seconds at the Berlin World Championships.

But last year he claimed 'super athlete' Ronaldo would easily beat him in a race.

During his time at Real Madrid, Ronaldo once ran 96 metres in 10 seconds while his official FIFA speed is 21mph.

Bolt tried to launch a professional football career after retiring from athletics but failed to win a contract with Australian side Central Coast Mariners in 2018, despite scoring twice in a friendly match.
