C.K Akonnor can only win with the full backing of the nation- Tony Yeboah

Former Ghana forward Tony Yeboah insists Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor can only win a trophy for the country if he has the full backing of the nation.

According to Yeboah, who was a member of the team that lost in the 1992 AFCON final to Senegal, without the support of Ghanaians the coach is likely to fail.

“It is not about pedigree. He will need support. CK will need support. He can't do it alone. The media, the fans, the players, everybody. The president himself, everybody must support him then we give him a chance," he told GTV Sports Plus.

“Without that CK cannot do anything. So for me I pray CK should have all these things because when you don't have it he should forget it. It is the support. Without the support you cannot do anything."

Akonnor was named coach of the senior national team in January, replacing Kwesi Appiah following a disappointing Nations Cup in Egypt last summer.

The former Black Stars captain is yet to make his coaching debut with the Black Stars despite playing the role of an assistant in Appiah's last two games.
