Former Ghana international Mohammed Abu has returned to the MLS and signed for D.C United.
The defensive midfielder has sealed a one-year loan from Norwegian top-flight side Vålerenga
''We’re excited for Abu to join the team and add some important depth in the central midfield position,” D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said in a statement.
''He has good defensive instincts and has an impressive passing range.''
Abu who holds a Green Card and will not fill an international roster spot.
The 28-year-old played two years Columbus Crew between 2017 and 2018 where he tallied 24 appearances.
He also played Eastern Conference final in 2017.
Abu, once owned by Manchester City, had a successful loan spell at Norwegian Strømsgodset IF which earned a Ghana call-up and played at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
He had loan spells at Rayo Vallecano (Spain) and FC Lorient (France) before making a permanent switch to Strømsgodset.
