Akufo-Addo Sacks Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko Over AMERI Deal Controversy


The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has sacked Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko with immediate effect.

A statement from the Presidency, signed by Director of Communications Eugene Arhin, announced the news of the President’s decision.

Boakye Agyarko as Energy Minister was at the centre of the AMERI controversy, in which this government attempted to revise the AMERI power deal they had opposed under the NDC government under even worse conditions.

NOTICE:

After public outcry the deal was halted.

Many public policy groups have been calling for the firing of Boakye Agyarko over the deal and they seem to have gotten their wish.

PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO RELIEVES MINISTER FOR ENERGY OF HIS POSITION

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has, by letter, dated 6th August, 2018, relieved the Minister for Energy, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, of his position, with immediate effect.

President Akufo-Addo has asked Mr. Boakye Agyarko to hand over his office to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. John Peter Amewu, who will act temporarily as Minister for Energy, until a substantive appointment is made.

The President wishes Mr. Boakye Agyarko well in his future endeavours.
