Sammy Gyamfi, The Menzgold Saga And The Propaganda

The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi like most young people in Ghana is becoming a disappointment to me and if you care to know, to this country as well.

For the sake of politics and propaganda, the Communications Officer accused the Akufo-Addo led government for being directly involved in the Menzgold saga and according to him, government has been “very irresponsible, insensitive, atrocious and unconscionable.”

But can we take a moment and get to the creation of this saga and do this in the interest of the aggrieved customers and not for the purpose of politics?

In October 28, 2014, under the NDC administration, Bank of Ghana discovered that Menzbank was operating microfinance in Kasoa under the guise of gold trading and illegally using the name “Bank”. In March 11, 2015, under the same administration, the Bank of Ghana published a list unlicensed entities including Menzbank and then they change their name “Menzbanc Ghana Company Limited”. Surprisingly, the then government, led by John Dramani Mahama didn’t see any irregularities and the ill intention in the activities of this company after a year when BOG in April 13, 2016 issued a notice to warn the public against the operations of the then Menzbanc which I think was not enough, the government could have taken a more strict action to ensure the safety of its citizens.

So for two years, the NDC government which Sammy Gyamfi was a member of couldn’t stop Nana Appiah and his unlawful operations even though they found or noticed irregularities with their operations but then they have no shame in turning to blame the NPP for being the cause of this whole saga. Even if it politics we want to do with this, where should the blame game starts from? Shouldn’t the government who allowed the business to start operations be questioned? And the fact that the government then knew about the unlawful operations of the company and yet didn’t or couldn’t stop them should be enough reason for the Mahama led administration to keep their mouths closed and bow their craniums in ignominy on this, but since politics to us means strong oppositions and criticism, the NDC and their Communication Officer thinks it is an opportunity to come out and do propaganda forgetting that the whole problem started when they were in power.

Sammy Gyamfi is just the spoiled child from bad parenting who thinks it is okay to rebuke another family for their poor parenting. Both the NDC and the NPP government have a part to play in this rot so what right does Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC and NPP think they have to come out and try to politicize the issue to make themselves look good in the eyes of Ghanaians.

To Sammy Gyamfi, it is true that the government is complicit in the matter as you said but which government was in power when Nana Appiah lunched their Ponzi scheme to duped Ghanaians and which government was in power when the events that led us to where we are today started. If your claim is that because the President, Nana Akufo-Addo had a business meeting with the boss of the company so he is a part of the conundrum customers of Menzgold Ghana Limited have been plunged into, what would have been the result if your party as a government who cares about the people and your all-knowing self had closed down the business after detecting that the then Menzbanc was proving funny and running against the rules of this country?

We are here in this country whiles politicians are taking the issues that are affecting the Ghanaian and serving them on political platforms. They do politics with big grammar spiced with propaganda all to champion their own selfish needs. At the end of the day, after 60 years, we are still running around the real problems facing the country because politicians are not ready to work and seek the solutions.

So if Sammy Gyamfi as the Communication Officer of the NDC thinks because he knows how to talk so he have something to say, it should be an apology to the citizens of this country for failing to close the operations of Menzgold when they should have and not coming out to play the usual political blame game.

It is painful to note that where we are as a country is not a shame for our leaders, it is heartbreaking to note that after all the developmental problems facing this country, politicians still have the gut to be doing party politics right into our faces. Is it time we hold our politicians accountable no matter our political backgrounds? Don't we think that’s the only way politicians will respect us as the people who voted for them? We should be tired of them by now, it’s over 60 years and they still play like babies with sharp teeth.

We deserve better, and it is our duty to let them know we are tired of their games.
