Diaper importers accuse FDA of sabotage

The Diaper Importers Association of Ghana says the recent action by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) seems to lend credence to allegations of attempts to collapse their business in creating a monopoly for other entities in the industry.

.

The FDA destroyed some 40-footer containers of diapers seized at its recycling plant at Ashaiman and cautioned manufacturers, importers, and distributors of baby diapers against importing unhygienic baby diapers, also known as bale diapers.

.

Albert Obeng, the Secretary of the Diaper Importers Association of Ghana, addressed the media and intimated that members of the association complied with all regulatory requirements and that, despite their adherence to the laid guidelines, their certificates have been unexpectedly revoked.

!

“When you do this, then the impression that is out is that certain persons possibly may have contacted FDA in an attempt to get monopoly, then what we are doing seeks to give credence to what allegations that people are putting out there.

“We are hoping to re-engage them, to ask them why certificates could be given to members to work

And then in about a month or two, they come back to withdraw the same certificates that they have issued to our members
