Flagbearership race: NPP supporters threaten to vote against MPs taking sides

Some New Patriotic Party members in the Ashanti Region have threatened to vote against sitting Members of Parliament who take sides in the party’s flagbearership contest.

.

The group which constitutes polling station executives from constituencies in the Ashanti Region insists that sitting Members of Parliament who are openly endorsing prospective Presidential Candidates risk losing their seats during the party’s parliamentary primaries.

.

Members of the group have also served notice they will not be coerced by any sitting Member of Parliament to vote for a flagbearer who does not suit their choice.

An Executive Member of the Ashanti Regional Grassroots Delegates of the NPP, Fredrick Owusu at a press conference said: “Some Members of Parliament holding juicy positions in this current administration have been moving around and granting interviews endorsing Dr

Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as forcing him down our throats to accept him, and we want to send a strong signal to those doing that to desist from it.”

Owusu added that they will “want to make it clear that we the grassroots will stand united behind a presidential candidate who will be widely accepted by Ghanaians and a candidate that has a message of hope for the youth because we cannot afford to lose the 2024 elections.
